EP 90 - This New Flash Might Be a Game Changer

Hi! Welcome back for another podcast recap.

Today I’m just catching you up on what I’ve been up to lately - from teaching at a retreat in Utah to accidentally landing a full bridal shoot. Plus, I’ve been testing out some new flashes that I’m very into. So let’s talk inspiration, gear, and saying yes to unexpected opportunities.

Life lately? Chaos but Good.

I just got back from teaching in Utah - and wow, traveling as a full-time working mom is no joke. But this time (unlike my NYC trip 😅), I successfully brought all of Georgia’s milk back with me, which felt like a major win. Every trip is a learning curve, and I feel like I’m finally getting into a rhythm of how to prep and pivot. If you’re in the same boat: I see you!

The gear that’s sparking creativity

So at the retreat, I was testing the Godox Lux Master flash - a new piece of gear I’ve been curious about. I think mine may have been refurbished (it had a few quirks), but the results? Honestly… chef’s kiss. It gave me that “full production” look with just one flash. It completely shifted how I’m thinking about lighting lately. If you’ve been in a rut or using the same setup forever, try something new. Borrow, rent, test—whatever you’ve gotta do to break out of your comfort zone.

A surprise shoot that reminded me why I love this work

I was literally about to head to the airport when a friend had to cancel a shoot - and just like that, I found myself doing a bridal session with minimal gear and zero planning. Somehow, it worked. It was one of those "magic in the chaos" kind of moments. It was one of the most exciting shoots I’ve done in a long time, and it was completely unplanned.

Feeling stuck? Shake things up.

If you’re in a season where creativity feels flat, I’ve been there. My biggest advice is: challenge yourself. Try a new lens. Say yes to a weird idea. Go shoot something just for you. It doesn’t have to be perfect! Every time I let myself play, experiment, or get scrappy, I come back feeling more inspired than before.

Let's stay connected

Whether you’re thriving or struggling creatively right now - being part of a community helps. That’s why I love retreats, workshops, and of course, our Summer School membership. If you’re looking for a space to grow your business and your artistry alongside other photographers, come hang with us. Seriously.

Final thoughts

This week reminded me how powerful new gear and unexpected moments can be for reigniting your love for photography. So if you’ve been feeling stuck, maybe it’s your sign to try something new, say yes to the random shoot, or finally test that gear you’ve had your eye on.

Thanks for being here. Don’t forget to subscribe, share the show with a friend, and I’ll catch you next week :)
