EP 133 - The Art of Props & Queer Advocacy with Landon Hawkins
This week on the pod, I sat down with wedding photographer and creative powerhouse Landon Hawkins. We talk about using creativity and props to create more intentional imagery, standing out in a saturated industry, and the importance of queer advocacy and representation within the wedding world.
Meet Landon:
Landon is a queer wedding photographer known for creating cinematic, story driven imagery that blends emotion, movement, and playful creativity. His work often incorporates handmade props, oversized objects, and conceptual set pieces that turn real moments into artful, nostalgic scenes. Inspired by individuality and human connection, he approaches weddings with a mix of documentary storytelling.
One of my favorite parts of this conversation was hearing Landon talk about how creativity doesn't have to look the same for everyone. For him, it's giant sculptures, custom props, and set design. For someone else, it might be lighting, styling, storytelling, or posing. The lesson isn't that you need giant tennis balls at your next session—the lesson is that leaning into what genuinely excites you is often what helps you stand out.
We also spent a lot of time talking about representation in the wedding industry.
As a queer photographer, Landon has built a business that intentionally serves and celebrates LGBTQ+ couples. He shared his own experience coming out, why creating a safe space for clients matters so much, and how businesses can move beyond performative inclusivity and create genuine representation year-round.
It was a really honest conversation about advocacy, creativity, and building a business that reflects who you are.
