EP 130 - A Better Way to Think About Branding: World Building

In this episode, I’m sharing a shift in how I think about branding - from “personal branding” to world building. I talk through how your brand is shaped through every interaction, from social media to your client experience, and what it looks like to stay consistent across all of it. If you’ve been feeling like you’re blending in, this will help you start thinking about how to build something people actually want to be part of.

Why I’m Moving Away from “Personal Branding:”

I feel like we’ve all sat through the personal branding talk. But I think it’s incomplete.

Because your brand isn’t just you. It’s the entire experience of interacting with you.

That’s where world building comes in.

A Quick Life Update:

Before we get into it - life has been a little chaotic lately. I moved from LA to Washington, we’re in the middle of buying a house, planning Summer Camp… all the things.

But honestly, it’s been really grounding. The PNW feels like home in a way I didn’t expect.

And I think that shift in my life has made me think even more about building something that actually feels aligned long-term.

What “World Building” Actually Means:

World building is creating a full experience around your brand.

Not just your photos.

Not just your Instagram.

Everything.

Your website, your emails, your client experience, how you talk, how people feel when they’re around you… all of it.

If someone interacts with you in any way, they should feel like they’re stepping into the same world.

That’s the goal.

Think About the Brands You Love

Think about the brands you’re obsessed with.

You know exactly how it feels to be in their world. There’s a vibe. There’s consistency. There’s intention.

That doesn’t happen by accident.

And it’s not just big brands - photographers can do this really well too.

Where Most Photographers Miss It:

The biggest disconnect I see?

People are one version of themselves on Instagram… and then completely different everywhere else.

Their emails feel different.

Their pricing guide feels different.

Their in-person energy feels different.

And it breaks the illusion.

If your world isn’t consistent, people don’t know what they’re stepping into - and that makes it harder to trust, book, and connect.

Your Touchpoints Matter More Than You Think:

Your world is built in the small things:

* Your inquiry response

* Your pricing guide

* How you direct on a shoot

* The way you deliver galleries

* Even how you caption your posts

All of those moments are building (or breaking) your world.

And the more aligned they are, the more recognizable you become.

This Is What Actually Makes You Stand Out:

It’s not just talent.

There are so many talented photographers.

The ones that stand out are the ones who feel distinct.

Recognizable.

Consistent.

Intentional.

They’ve built a world that people want to be a part of.

Final Thoughts:

I don’t want you to just think about “how do I grow my following?”

I want you to think about: What world am I creating - and would I want to be in it?
