EP 106 - Concert Photographer & Camera Creator: A Chat with Christina Demertzi

Hi everyone! This time I’m joined by Christina Demertzi - a Berlin-based concert photographer who went from teaching to touring with major artists. We chat about life on the road, finding creative flow in the chaos, and her newest project, the Dem Camera, a screen-free digital camera designed to make photography fun again.

Meet Christina:

Christina Demertzi is a Berlin-based photographer, content creator, and founder of demcams. After starting her career as a secondary education teacher, she made a bold leap into the creative world and has since built a name for herself capturing unforgettable moments on stage and behind the scenes with international artists. With over three years of experience in music photography, Christina’s work spans tour documentation, social media storytelling, and viral reels that have reached millions of viewers. Beyond photography, she is passionate about empowering creatives and has currently founded demcams, a screen-free digital camera. Her journey combines artistry, entrepreneurship, and resilience, inspiring others to turn their passions into thriving careers.

The Reality of Concert Photography

Concert photography is no easy gig - you’re in constant motion, editing on no sleep, and trying to capture fleeting, emotional moments in chaotic lighting. Christina opened up about the challenges of life on the road and what it’s like delivering photos overnight while still chasing that perfect shot. But for her, the magic of live music makes it all worth it.

Touring & Connection

One of her favorite experiences so far has been touring with the American artist Upsahl, where she learned how much of this job is about connection - not just with the audience but also with the artists and crew. Those behind-the-scenes moments, the quiet ones in between the chaos, are where Christina’s work really shines.

From Teaching to Creating

Leaving teaching wasn’t easy, but Christina craved more creative freedom and flexibility. Her story is such a good reminder that it’s never too late to pivot and follow what lights you up - even if it feels like starting from scratch.

The Dem Camera

And now, she’s doing something seriously cool: building her own camera. The Dem Camera is a tiny, screen-free digital camera with a vintage feel - designed to help people slow down, enjoy the moment, and capture life without overthinking it. It’s available worldwide and already gaining attention from creators everywhere.

Advice for Aspiring Concert Photographers

Her biggest tip? Start small. Photograph local shows, make genuine connections, and keep showing up. Relationships are everything in the music world - and her career is proof of what can happen when you combine passion with persistence.

Closing Thoughts

Christina’s story is such a perfect example of what happens when you take a leap toward what you love. From classrooms to concert stages to camera design - she’s proof that creativity has no rules.
